Vacancy

There’s one in every crowd,

A lonely heart,

Vacancy sign flickering,

Eyelashes fluttering,

Faulty wiring,

A few loose screws,

Dodgy hinges,

Tumbleweed,

Blowing down the desert highway of the mind,

A hotel,

A roof that’s sprung a leak,

Slates smashed in or missing,

Bed springs old,

The keyholes rusty,

The lift that doesn’t work,

A staircase steep and rickety,

They creak like old bones ache,

Full of character, and not much hope,

They ache to be loved.
